The truth of the matter is that many people start looking for employment without ever putting together a plan; and this hurts them a great deal in the long run. When you are deciding on a timeline for your job search, remember that you should not do it immediately after you have left your old one. You might be feeling a little antsy or nervous, but the truth of the matter is that if you jump right in, you are going to suffer for it. You will most likely look very stressed, you are going to be tired, and they will sense your panic. Over all, make sure that you get a cooling off period before you go back into the job market. This can make a lot of difference.
The next thing that you need to consider when you are plotting your next career move is to figure out who you need to talk to. If you simply go in and hand over your resume to the first likely person, chances are good that you are not going to make any impression at all. What you need to do is to make contact with someone who is actually hiring. Who is the person in charge of hiring and are you someone who is interested in moving forward with them? They are the person that you need to make an impression on, and unless you do; you are going to lose out!
Another thing that you should do is to stalk the company that you are looking to work. This doesn’t mean that you should go through their trash you should just keep your ear to the ground. Are they in the local newspaper, or do you know anyone who works there? If you have sources that can keep you informed of what is going on during your job search, you will have a much better idea when it comes time to send out your resumes. A change in management can help you meet the new movers and shakers while things are still settling.
Remember that when you are plotting a timeline for your job search you need to keep it personal. You never know when a job search is going to come to fruition and you never know who is going to help you do it. Every time you speak to a representative of the company, make sure that you are at your best. Be polite, be crisp, and be friendly! You never know who has influence and whose opinion is trusted by the person in charge.
Take some time and get yourself ready for your job search it might be more difficult to get a job now, but it is far from impossible.
